On August 20, the Department of Cultural Heritage, in coordination with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa Province, organized a survey on the protection and promotion of the value of the intangible cultural heritage "Art of pottery making of Cham people" in Bau Truc pottery village, Ninh Phuoc commune.
Since 2023, the conservation of the "Art of pottery making of Cham people" in Bau Truc village has been implemented in association with vocational training, craft village development, community-based tourism, digital transformation, and branding. Ninh Phuoc commune regularly organizes training and vocational teaching classes for multiple generations; organizes vocational skills competitions; and established 1 heritage practice club and 1 Cham women's pottery making club. The locality has prepared 7 profiles requesting the title of artisan; surveyed and proposed the protection of more than 6 hectares of raw material areas, and invested about 12 billion VND in building craft village infrastructure.

In addition, the locality has installed NFC chip boards for looking up information about craft villages and products; applied virtual reality (VR) technology for tourism experiences; and proposed the establishment of the Bau Truc Cham Pottery Certification Mark. However, maintaining the traditional pottery craft still faces several difficulties, such as: increasingly scarce sources of clay, sand, firewood, and straw for production; traditional pottery firing techniques facing requirements for environmental protection, fire prevention, and firefighting under urbanization conditions; community tourism products, pottery experience activities, and linked tours/routes are not yet diverse; and tourism human resources, presentation skills, and experience guidance remain limited.

During the survey, Ninh Phuoc commune petitioned the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Provincial People's Committee, and relevant departments and sectors to pay attention to allocating and integrating resources to support infrastructure investment and cultural institutions; protect raw material areas and heritage practice spaces; and promote digital transformation and vocational training. At the same time, they requested support for applying science, conserving traditional pottery making and firing techniques associated with environmental protection, and building community tourism models, contributing to creating sustainable livelihoods for artisans and local people.
The survey delegation acknowledged the achievements of Ninh Phuoc commune, while exchanging views with local authorities, artisans, and the community regarding difficulties and obstacles to serve as a basis for proposing solutions to sustainably conserve and promote the "Art of pottery making of Cham people" in the coming time.
