The Ministry of Health has just issued an official dispatch to ministries and sectors to seek opinions on the Prime Minister's draft Decision approving the Scheme on "Medical Tourism Development for the 2026–2030 Period".
According to the draft, by 2030, Vietnam aims to establish a professional, safe, and high-quality medical tourism service chain; develop regionally competitive products and destinations; and gradually build Vietnam's medical tourism brand in the international market. One of the notable targets is identifying eight priority localities to select and develop key medical tourism destinations, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Da Nang, Hue, Khanh Hoa, and Phu Quoc (An Giang). At the same time, it strives to have at least 20 hospitals achieve quality accreditation according to international standards, including at least 5 public hospitals.

Products targeted for development include: general health check-ups, screening, and early disease detection; dentistry; assisted reproduction; select specialized medical examination and treatment services; traditional medicine; rehabilitation; health enhancement care, wellness retreats, and elderly care. The Scheme also aims to establish service procedures for international patients from consultation, booking, reception, and treatment to payment and post-treatment follow-up.
To attract international visitors to Vietnam for medical examination and treatment, the Ministry of Health proposed researching and finalizing policies that facilitate visas, entry, stay, and travel for foreign patients and accompanying caregivers. Concurrently, it proposed perfecting regulations related to medical examination and treatment service prices, facilitating international payments, hospital fee guarantees, and connections with domestic and foreign insurance companies. The draft also sets requirements for developing human resources capable of serving international visitors, particularly in specialized foreign languages, medical interpretation, quality management, and customer care.
