The Hon Du Revolutionary Base is a complex of overlapping mountains located in Khanh Trung commune, along with parts of Khanh Nam and Khanh Thuong communes, in Khanh Vinh district, Khanh Hoa province.
Hon Du is the name of the highest mountain in the aforementioned range, with the following elevations: Hon Du Dai at 1,292m, Hon Nhon at 1,092m, Hon Du Tieu at 1,000m, Hon Sa at 216m, and Hon Mua at 602m. During the resistance against French and American invaders, the Hon Du area was chosen as the base for the key command agencies of Khanh Hoa province and Khanh Vinh district, serving as a transport route, communication link, and strategic North-South corridor for the inter-zone and the Central authorities.
These mountains contain many caves and rocky outcrops, and are also part of a primary forest with many large, ancient trees. On the mountain slopes, there are numerous small streams flowing toward the villages of A Xay, Suoi Lach, Suoi Ca, etc., such as Suoi Ngang, Suoi Ka giang, Ta Kang, and Suoi Lao. These streams flow into the two major rivers of Khanh Vinh district: the Giang River and the Cai River.
Surrounding Hon Du are residential areas, populated largely by the Raglai ethnic group. From here, one can conveniently communicate with western provinces such as Lam Dong and Dak Lak, as well as areas within the province such as Khanh Son, Ninh Hoa, and Dien Khanh districts, via forest trails.
Given the features mentioned above, Hon Du possessed all the necessary elements to become one of the major revolutionary bases of Khanh Hoa province during the resistance against French and American invaders from 1945 to 1975.
The Hon Du Revolutionary Base was one of the major resistance bases for the military and people of Khanh Hoa throughout the two long-term resistance wars against the French colonialists and American imperialist invaders (1945–1975). It witnessed and marked countless glorious historical events for the Party and the revolutionary government of Khanh Vinh district in particular, and Khanh Hoa province in general. From the important meetings of the Provincial and District Party Committees to the heroic struggles of countless revolutionary comrades from all over the country alongside the ethnic minority people of the Khanh Vinh mountains.
Since being chosen as a resistance base for the military and people of Khanh Hoa, the Hon Du Revolutionary Base played a particularly important role in building and developing the revolutionary movement among the ethnic minority people of the Khanh Hoa mountains, helping them to trust and follow the revolutionary path chosen by the Party and Uncle Ho.
The Hon Du Revolutionary Base is not only a source of pride for the ethnic minority people of the Khanh Vinh mountains but also a spiritual symbol of the excellent fighting spirit of all the people and soldiers of Khanh Hoa province.
Today, all the people of Khanh Hoa province, especially those who were directly attached to the revolutionary base throughout the two resistance wars, are striving to preserve and educate the younger generation and future descendants about the revolutionary achievements that were won.
With such significance, in 2008, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province classified the Hon Du Revolutionary Base as a provincial-level historical and cultural relic.
